Tavia Hunt, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, has sided with kicker Harrison Butker following the whirlwind sparked by his recent comments.
Butker delivered a speech at a graduation ceremony at Benedictine College in Kansas earlier this week in which he urged women to be homemakers while pointing out that they are usually more excited about getting married and having children than entering the working world.
“I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother,” he said.
The above prompted a major backlash, with someone even starting a petition to have the Chiefs release Harrison Butker.
Clark’s daughter, Gracie Hunt, endorsed the message in an interview with FOX on Friday, recalling her own experience growing up with a stay-at-home mom.
Her mother has also backed her in a lengthy Instagram post, noting he wants her daughters to chase their dreams but also to find a partner and raise a family.
“I’ve always encouraged my daughters to be highly educated and chase their dreams. I want them to know that they can do whatever they want (that honors God),” she wrote.
Tavia Hunt Backed Harrison Butker With Some Powerful Words
Tavia Hunt also addressed Harrison Butker’s critics, asserting that it’s not bigoted to show appreciation for one’s wife and the mother of their kids.
“Affirming motherhood and praising your wife, as well as highlighting the sacrifice and dedication it takes to be a mother, is not bigoted. It is empowering to acknowledge that a woman’s hard work in raising children is not in vain,” she added.
“Countless highly educated women devote their lives to nurturing and guiding their children. Someone disagreeing with you doesn’t make them hateful; it simply means they have a different opinion. Let’s celebrate families, motherhood and fatherhood. Our society desperately needs dedicated men and women to raise up and train the next generation in the way they should go.”
As for the Chiefs cutting Harrison Butker, it’s unlikely to happen. While the NFL has pushed back on the player’s comments, the Chiefs haven’t addressed it.
