Sylvester Stallone has had quite a successful career in Hollywood for nearly five decades.
Throughout that time, Stallone has been able to build a sizable luxury watch collection. But The Family Stone star is ready to part with many of his precious timepieces.
Eleven of Stallone’s luxury timepieces will be headed to auction at Sotheby’s New York on June 5. Among them is Stallone’s extremely rare Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, regarded by watch lovers and horologists as one of the world’s most complicated wristwatche The piece originally sold for $2.5 million and its sale marks the first time the watch has ever been put up for commercial auction.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a one-of-a-kind steel Grandmaster Chime sold for $31 million in 2019; Stallone’s Chime is estimated to be worth between $2.5 million and $5 million, though that number is sure to climb as the bidding begins.
When speaking about his Grandmaster Chime in a YouTube video for Sotheby’s, the longtime Patek collector pointed out that it’d “never been touched” when he bought it and he had to personally write a letter to the Patek board to be allowed to buy it.
He called the piece a “work of art” that gave him “a real sense of accomplishment owning it.” Despite this, Stallone has never actually worn it.
The watch is still in its original packaging and comes with certification papers and a beautiful box engraved with the Rocky star‘s name.
The piece itself boasts some useful features including a perpetual calendar and five different chiming modes. As for why he’s parting with it, Stallone simply said he was ready to move on.
“I was going to covet and keep it forever. That’s just not my personality,” he said. “I tend to enjoy things and then I like to share them.”
Other pieces for sale include a Patek Philippe 5711 Nautilus, Rolex 228235 Day Date, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon 50th Anniversary, and Piaget Polo Grande. Needless to say any of Stallone’s watches will set you back quite a bit if you decide to buy.
