The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-105 at home in Wednesday’s first Western Conference finals game. After the match, Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards admitted that Minnesota was worn out from the tough seven-game Round 2 matchup against the Denver Nuggets.
Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns combined for just 35 points on 12-for-36 (33.3%) shooting. While this was happening, Dallas Mavericks players Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic combined for 63 points on 24-for-49 (49.0%) shooting to steal home-court advantage from the Timberwolves.
In his post-game interview, Edwards discussed Minnesota’s uneven effort level during the game at 3:45. Edwards said: “We came out flat today and then we found our energy and then went back to being flat,. So, I think it was just on us. Everything was on us today. I didn’t get downhill as much. … We were just a little tired, probably.”
When asked if Sunday’s dramatic victory against Denver in Game 7 influenced his team’s lack of enthusiasm, the Timberwolves fell behind the Nuggets by 20 points in the third quarter of the crucial game. Still, they returned to defeat the reigning champs 98-90 on the road.
Anthony Edwards Receives a Sizable Earnings Incentive for Making the All-NBA Second-Team
Anthony Edwards was one of the 15 players selected for All-NBA honors this season, but not making the first team. Edwards received a sizeable contract bonus after being chosen to the second team for the first time.
According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, Edwards secured an All-NBA provision in his rookie contract last summer. As a result, his agreement is now worth $245.34 million, an increase of $41 million.
Therefore, the 22-year-old probably isn’t too concerned about making the second team rather than the first team, considering his enormous salary. With his first All-NBA selection and incredible postseason performance, Edwards is having a career year. Next on his agenda is to guide the Timberwolves to their first-ever NBA Finals berth.
