Luka Doncic Dallas Mavericks 031324

NBA history beckoned for Mavericks star Luka Doncic. But his hamstring would not cooperate.

Doncic was well on his way to approaching Russell Westbrook’s record of 11 consecutive triple-doubles. The 25-year-old had strung together seven straight over the past few weeks, waltzing along the American Airlines Center hardwood like a modern-day Baryshnikov.

He looked to continue his run Wednesday against the short-handed Warriors. Through three quarters, he strayed slightly off the pace, recording just three rebounds. Then again, with Doncic, quick outbursts — whether of the scoring, rebounding or assisting variety — are more than possible.

That wasn’t the case on Wednesday, though. And after landing awkwardly in the fourth quarter, Doncic was forced off the floor for the remainder of the game. Here’s what you need to know about his status.

Luka Doncic injury update
Doncic received an MRI on his left hamstring Thursday and the results came back “clean,” according to head coach Jason Kidd.

He will not play in Thursday’s game against the Thunder, but the Mavericks star will be re-evaluated before Sunday’s game against the first-place Nuggets.

With 6:46 left in the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s 109-99 win over the Warriors, Doncic floated a feather to Daniel Gafford. As the Dallas center slammed the ball through its target, Doncic grimaced. He had landed awkwardly while planting his foot back down on the court.

Shortly thereafter, Doncic signaled to head coach Jason Kidd that he needed to be taken out of the game. He went into the locker room and did not return, bringing his triple-double streak to an unceremonious close. Doncic ended the day with 21 points, nine assists and three rebounds.

Dallas ruled Doncic out with left hamstring soreness, but they proceeded to put the finishing touches on the victory over Golden State.

Longest triple-double streaks in NBA history
Doncic fell a few games short of Russell Westbrook’s record for longest triple-double streak in NBA history.

While he can take solace in the fact that he is tied with Oscar Robertson and Michael Jordan for the longest 20+ point triple-double streak in league history, he couldn’t reach Westbrook’s famed 11-game mark.

Here’s how Doncic’s run fares compared to some of the other lengthy streaks in NBA history.
