The Buccaneers are coming off a surprise 9-win and NFC South division-winning season. Chris Godwin is one of several key players nearing the end of his contract in Tampa Bay, so GM Jason Licht has to think long-term here.
Franchise icon Mike Evans (31 in August) just signed a two-year extension. Godwin is in the last season of a three-year deal he signed in 2022, but he’ll be 29 when he’s up for a new contract next year.
So Tampa Bay should consider trading Godwin to the highest bidder, rather than risk losing him for nothing in free agency. After all, trading Godwin would clear the Buccaneers $20 million in cap space, per OvertheCap.com.
Just about any team with the necessary cap space should have interest in the Super Bowl 55 champion, but the Green Bay Packers specifically stand out as a logical landing spot for Chris Godwin.
Like Tampa Bay, Jordan Love’s Packers exceeded expectations by finishing 9-8 to lock down a playoff berth. Green Bay upset the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round before losing a heartbreaker to the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.
What The Packers Should Offer For Chris Godwin
Green Bay reached the elite eight last season even though rookie Jayden Reed led the team with just 64 receptions for 793 yards and eight touchdowns. If the Packers could find a true No. 1 WR fo Love, they would immediately close the gap with the top NFC contenders.
The Packers should offer the Bucs a 2025 third-round draft pick and a 2026 fifth-rounder for Godwin. But if he’s willing to sign an extension beforehand, the Packers could upgrade the 2025 selection to a second-rounder.
With Godwin slotting in as the new No. 1 receiver in Green Bay, the sky would be the limit for the Love-led offense.
