Not England’s night!: Reaction to the Three Lions’ first defeat at Wembley in 21 matches as teenager starlet Endrick, 17, scores late on for the visitors as a substitute | HO
Not England’s night!
In the end, it was Brazil who showed they are still a team to be reckoned with.
England were favourites tonight, but could not get past an inexperienced Brazil side, and were made to rue their first-half missed chances.
Although there were positives to take from the performances of Anthony Gordon and Jude Bellingham, Gareth Southgate will be disappointed with the result.
However, Brazil will be delighted, they have found a new superstar in Endrick, who netted the winner on his debut at just 17 years of age.
It was also the perfect start for new Brazil manager, Dorival Jr, who has now halted the losing streak with a brilliant win.
Many people moan about the international break, but I found that very enjoyable, and I hope you did too.
Thank you for listening to me blab on this page, I can’t wait to do it again soon!

Fan Comment: ‘There was an air of the inevitability that England were not going to score’
Anonymous: For all the half-decent performances from certain players there was an air of the inevitability that England were not going to score. The subs bought on made no difference. An all-round frustrating game…

MATCH REPORT: England 0-1 Brazil
A night to forget in the end for England.
Brazil got what they deserved in the end as Endrick put a dent in England’s preparations for Euro 2024.
Oliver Holt, Mail Sport’s Chief Sports Writer, was at Wembley to witness England crack under the pressure.
Read what he had to say, here:
OLIVER HOLT AT WEMBLEY: As England began their build-up to the European Championships in earnest, a Brazil team that had lost their last three matches and had been written off.

No Kane a big blow for England
So, now it’s confirmed, Harry Kane will not be fit for Tuesday’s match with Belgium.
Let’s be honest, I don’t think anybody was expecting him to be, but it is still a huge blow for Gareth Southgate to see Kane fly back to Germany.
Ollie Watkins struggled at times tonight and they will need either him or Ivan Toney to step up to the plate next week.

BREAKING:Harry Kane to return to Munich!
Sami Mokbel, Mail Sport, has revealed some big breaking news from Wembley!
Harry Kane is set to return to Germany for treatment and will miss Tuesday’s match with Belgium.

‘England looked flat and ordinary’
Oliver Holt, Mail Sport Chief Sports Writer, at Wembley Stadium:
Brazil were too good for England tonight. Too assured, too clever with the ball, too fast with their movement.
England looked flat and ordinary. They are a better team than they showed this evening. A wake-up call, hopefully.

Fan Comment: ‘[England were] pants’
Anonymous: Absolutely pants
I think this comment sums up how a lot of you are feeling…

What are your full-time thoughts?
You have heard a lot from me, now I want to hear your take.
Comment below your feelings after that England loss, and where you think they need to go from here.
I’ll pick out the best comments and share them, right here.

England’s Wembley unbeaten streak ended
Many people were confident that England would win this one, including myself, I predicted 2-1.
Previously, England’s last loss at Wembley came in October 2020, as Denmark came out on top 1-0 in the Uefa Nations League.
Well, there 20-match unbeaten streak that followed that match has now come to an end.
04:23
Walker injury worry
The Manchester City fans will be waiting in anticipation for this one.
Kyle Walker was forced off in the first half due to a hamstring tweak he picked up clearing away a Vinicus Jr effort.
It is not often you see Walker struggle, so you have to wonder the extent of the injury.
Gareth Southgate has had his say, saying ‘He is feeling something but is not quite certain what it is’.
Not the best news then…

SOFASCORE STATS: England 0-1 Brazil
It’s fair to say, it was a very even game.
It wasn’t a classic by any means, but both sides certainly had their chances to win it, and it was Brazil that took theirs.
The amount of fouls sticks out to me – Brazil committed a total of 19!

Gareth Southgate: ‘There were lots of very good performances’
Gareth Southgate, England manager, speaking on Channel 4:
There were lots of very good performances. It is a top-level game and we have controlled long parts of it.
We had as many attempts as them on goal but in the end it is that ruthless moment that decides the game.
We’ve had a lot of players go on, a couple of debuts and some really important individual performances for us.
04:11
‘England did not look like Euro 2024 favourites’
Craig Hope, Mail Sport, at Wembley Stadium:
England did not look like Euro 2024 favourites and their reliance on Kane and Saka in final third was shown.
Saying that, Gordon did Euros prospects no harm, even if more is needed in terms of end product.
04:09
Mainoo makes his debut
Moments before the Endrick winner I was in the midst of praising Kobbie Mainoo, who came on for his England debut at just 18 years of age.
The Manchester United youngster didn’t look fazed, taking on players when he could, he looked comfortable out there.
Mainoo has a bright future ahead of him!
04:07
WATCH: Endricks Wembley winner
We have talked a lot about it, now we can watch it together.
Endrick may not score an easier goal in a Brazil shirt, but he won’t care about that.
A moment to remember.
04:05
Endrick lights up Wembley
You could see how much that meant to Endrick, he dropped to the floor with delight at the final whistle.
He is the youngest senior goalscorer at Wembley for club or country at just 17 years and 246 days old.
What a future he has ahead of him.
04:03
Brazil’s crazy celebrations
I must say, those celebrations were crazy.
Going by how the Brazil fans celebrated that winning goal, you could tell that this was not just a friendly to them.
The scenes that followed the ball hitting the net brought drums and lots of singing, even I nearly bobbed along…
The rest of Wembley, however, will not be happy with what they saw.
03:55
FULL-TIME: England 0-1 Brazil
The answer is no.
The ball is whipped in but somehow Brazil end up on the counter-attack, with Endrick forcing a save from Jordan Pickford.
It was the last action of the game as the whistle is then blown, and England’s unbeaten streak at Wembley is ended by a young Brazil side.
I think we have just seen a future star make an impact on the international stage – Endrick.
The 17-year-old’s 80th-minute winner on debut is enough for Brazil, and I’m sure we will be seeing plenty more of that in the future.
For a depleted England, it is a disappointing result, they will want to respond strongly against Belgium on Tuesday.
03:54,95′
England 0-1 Brazil
A corner in the final minute of the game.
Can they do it?
03:54,93′
England 0-1 Brazil
Was that the moment?
Declan Rice whips in a delightful ball into the box but Danilo gets the slightest of touches to put off Marcus Rashford.
He probably would have got a header on target without that touch.
03:51,90′
England 0-1 Brazil
Marcus Rashford gets outnumbered in the box after trying to dance through the Brazil defence.
That is the intent England need. The board has gone up and they have FOUR additional minutes to find a goal.
03:50,89′
England 0-1 Brazil
Well, this response is not good.
England are running out of time, but it has been all Brazil since the goal.
Can they muster one final chance?
03:47,86′
England 0-1 Brazil
The Brazilian fans are having a party at Wembley.
They are certainly playing some rhythmic music in there, but England have to try and ignore it, they have less than five minutes to get something from this game.
They haven’t responded well to the goal so far though, they need to apply the pressure.
03:42,82′
GOAL STANDS! England 0-1 Brazil
After a two-minute check for offside, the goal is given.
The England players were adamant that it was offside, but I can tell you it wasn’t, he was behind Vincius Jr as he took the shot.
England’s Wembley unbeaten streak is in a lot of danger…
03:40,80′
GOAL!!! England 0-1 Brazil (Endrick 80′)
What a moment that is for the 17-year-old.
Endrick taps home after Vinicius Jr has his effort saved after a break away from the Brazilian forward.
However, it is being checked for offside…
03:39,78′
SUBSTITUTION: England 0-0 Brazil
Is it time for another one? I guess so.
Yes, more changes are being made, this time for Brazil, as Savio and Douglas Luiz come on for Bruno Guimaraes and Raphinha.
03:36,75′
SUBSTITUTION: England 0-0 Brazil
Kobbie Mainoo does get his chance, he comes on for Conor Gallagher to make his England debut.
He is only the 14th player to make his debut for England as a teenager, what a huge moment for him. Let’s see what he can do.
Marcus Rashford, his teammate, comes on as well for debutant Anthony Gordon – who has a fantastic game if you ask me.
03:34,74′
England 0-0 Brazil
A huge shout of ‘weyyyyyy’ rings around Wembley.
That is because there is a rare slip-up from Vinicius Jr, the England fans loved that one.
03:32,71′
SUBSTITUTION: England 0-0 Brazil
It’s time for the 17-year-old Endrick – you will want to keep a keen eye on this player.
He replaces his future teammate for next season, Real Madrid.
Lucas Paqueta is also hooked, so no red card for him, as Andreas Pereira comes on.
03:30,67′
SUBSTITUTION: England 0-0 Brazil
Gareth Southgate rolls the dice with a Triple substitution for England.
Jarrod Bowen comes on for Jude Bellingham, I wasn’t expecting that chance, but let’s see what Bowen can do.
Lewis Dunk and Joe Gomez are also on for Ben Chilwell and Harry Maguire.
03:27,66′
England 0-0 Brazil
After some technical difficulties, I can tell you Lucas Paqueta came very close to scoring for Brazil.
He tries to bend one first time into the top right-hand corner, and oh boy does it go close.
That would have been a spectacular strike. England will feel relieved to see it fly wide.
03:22,62′
England 0-0 Brazil
There is that Jude Bellingham confidence.
He doesn’t have any options so tries to lob Bento from distance. It goes well wide, but you have to admire the audacity to try it.
We’ve seen it done by players in the past.
03:20,60′
England 0-0 Brazil
John Stones has a pop from outside the box, and although it isn’t bad, it flies wide.
He must be feeling goal-hungry following his goal at Anfield a couple of weeks ago.
03:18,57′
England 0-0 Brazil
Brazil are starting to grow back into this match.
Raphinha has a chance blocked inside the box and you can just start to hear the nerves grow inside Wembley.
England might need to make some changes soon.
