Actress Olivia Munn continues to share her journey since being diagnosed with breast cancer last year, revealing in a recent interview with Vogue that she underwent a hysterectomy as part of her treatment.
In the candid interview published Sunday, the “Newsroom” actress disclosed that she recently had her uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries removed.
Munn explained that the procedure, which took place last month, was prompted by the debilitating exhaustion she experienced from cancer treatment medication.
Opting for the hysterectomy was a significant decision for Munn, but one she felt was necessary to be present for her family.
While the procedure improves her quality of life, it also means she won’t be able to carry any future children. Munn and comedian John Mulaney welcomed their son, Malcom, in 2021.
Despite the emotional weight of the decision, Munn and Mulaney discussed their options extensively, expressing a desire to continue growing their family.
Munn underwent egg retrieval before the hysterectomy, hoping to create embryos for surrogacy.
The couple was overjoyed when they learned they had two healthy embryos, providing a sense of relief and excitement amid the challenges of her cancer journey.
Reflecting on her experience, Munn expressed gratitude for the options available to her in fighting cancer and expanding her family.
She emphasized the importance of having choices and remaining optimistic about the future.
Munn first shared her breast cancer diagnosis, Luminal B cancer, in March, which led to her undergoing a double mastectomy as part of her treatment.
Despite the challenges, Munn’s journey has highlighted the resilience and strength she possesses, inspiring others facing similar struggles.
As Munn continues to navigate her cancer journey, her openness and courage serve as a beacon of hope for many, reminding us of the importance of resilience, love, and gratitude in the face of adversity.
