Miley Cyrus’s interview with Canada’s FASHION magazine earlier this year hit the headlines for all kinds of Liam Hemsworth related reasons (well, mainly just the one reason; Liam Hemsworth),and it’s on our radars again thanks to some gorgeous new outtake shots.

Miley’s opened up about her critics to the mag– including those who panned her MTV VMAs performance — and even her difficult split from fiancé Liam Hemsworth, which inspired her song ‘Drive.’

“I wrote it while I was working on Valentine’s Day — emotionally it was such a hard time,” Miley shares in the interview.

“It is about needing to leave someone but not really wanting to completely cut yourself off from the relationship. It’s a time when you want to leave but you can’t. It’s also about moving on.”

She also goes on to discuss her fashion inspirations, her new album, and the (lack of!) competition she feels when it comes to the other top female pop artists out there. “I feel like I’m in a different lane now,” she says.

“When it comes to critics, I have my blinders on and I don’t really feel like I have to compete with other pop artists.

I never think, ‘oh this performance is going to make her look bad or out-shadow her’ either but if there is no competition, there would be no reason for any of us to show up to work.”
