Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are part of a new TV special where they sit down together to talk about their careers.
The special is titled Arnold & Sly: Rivals, Friends, Icons and it’s come to TMZ. The special will explore the Schwarzenegger and Stallone saga in their own words.
Fox describes the hour-long special: “TMZ exclusively sits down with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone as they discuss for the first time how their once-fierce rivalry led to two Hollywood icons forever being friends and brothers in arms.”
The two action stars were once rivals, and both of them admitted to hating each other in the 1980s as they were defining their careers. They appeared in films such as Conan the Barbarian, The Terminator, Commando, Predator, and Rocky, Rambo, and Cobra.
The two are now close friends, but they will get candid about their rivalry. Each one has previously talked about their rivalry in separate interviews and each one also has their own documentary where the rivalry is discussed.
Schwarzenegger previously talked about how his rivalry with Stallone “got out of control” when they were competing as No. 1 action stars.
He said: “We were movie rivals, but we took the competitiveness to the extreme – we each had to have the best body, we had to kill more people in our films and we had to have the biggest guns. It got out of control and we tried to derail each other.”
He continued: “Then when we both invested in Planet Hollywood, we started flying around the world together to promote it and we became fantastic friends. He is a great human being and we are now inseparable.”
Stallone previously said that he and Schwarzenegger “really disliked each other immensely” before their rivalry developed into friendship.
He added: “This may sound a little vain, but I think we were pioneering a kind of genre at that time and it hasn’t been seen since really.
So the competition, because it’s his nature, he is very competitive and so am I… and I just thought it actually helped, but off-screen we were still competitive and that was not a healthy thing at all, but we’ve become really good friends.”
TMZ Presents: Arnold & Sly: Rivals, Friends, Icons is executive produced by Harvey Levin, Ryan Regan, Don Nash, Charles Latibeaudiere and Jess Fusco, with co-executive producer Susan Favre.
