It seems it will come down to a choice between an Avenger or The Man of Steel as to who will next be granted a license to kill – according to leading bookmakers Coral
There is something of a superhero stand off over who will next play James Bond on the big screen as a star of the Marvel film franchise and one from the DC film franchise are joint favourites to land the role.
Ever since Daniel Craig, 55, announced he would be hanging up his tux and license to kill back in 2019, speculation has been rife over who would take his place.
In fact, the ‘race’ to find a replacement has dragged on for so long that early favourite Idris Elba, 50, has since ruled himself out – declaring last year that he is “too old” to play the spy.

According to top bookmaker Coral, 32-year-old Aaron Taylor-Johnson and 39-year-old Henry Cavill are now most likely to land the role.
Aaron has previously appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise as lightning-fast superhero Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver, in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
While Henry recently broke hearts when it was revealed his time as the man of steel in DC’s Superman franchise has come to an end.
But currently, both British actors stand the chance of playing Bond with odds at 5-2.
Coral’s John Hill said: “Henry Cavill and Aaron Taylor-Johnson continue to be heavily linked to being the next James Bond.

“The two men tick all the right boxes for the role, so it is no surprise they are both attracting strong support in our betting.”
Aaron has also played the superhero Dave Lizewski in the Kick-Ass film series and also had a role in The King’s Man – a spin-off of spy franchise The Kingsman.
He will soon be seen in another Marvel film titled Kraven the Hunter where he will play the titular big-game hunter and superhero.
Meanwhile, Henry is due to appear in a spy franchise of his own in a project titled Argylle which is expected to debut on Apple TV+ later this year.
The mysterious project is directed by Layer Cake director Matthew Vaughn and is based on an as-yet-unreleased novel by an author named Elly Conway who no one has yet been able to established whether they are real or not.

The Argylle film is set to co-star Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Samuel L Jackson, and Dua Lipa – among others – and is said to be the first in a trilogy.
Other names and odds for Bond predicted by Coral are current West End star James Norton is 11-4, former Bridgerton star Rege-Jean Page is 8-1, and rugged actor Tony Hardy who can be backed at 9-1.
