Lessons for individuals making illegal money from Taylor Swift concert tickets
According to Singapore’s Today newspaper, a 29-year-old woman was charged with fraud on Tuesday (March 12) after allegedly scamming all Taylor Swift concert tickets through a platform called Carousell.
According to court documents, Foo Mei Qi intentionally defrauded a woman of 350 Singapore dollars (about 6.5 million VND) on September 13 last year.
Foo allegedly lied that she was selling tickets for Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour concert for the opening night on March 2.
Currently, she is being detained for further investigation and will return to court on March 19. With the above charges, Today said Foo faces up to 10 years in prison as well as a fine.
Police said they received several reports between March 3 and 7 from victims of being sold by an online seller.
Upon receiving the victim’s payment via PayNow or bank transfer, the woman failed to deliver the concert tickets and could not be contacted thereafter.
Singapore police identified the woman through further investigations and arrested her later.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that she is believed to be involved in other similar reports with damages amounting to more than S$24,000,” they added.
Previously on March 1, Singapore police said at least 334 people had become victims of scams related to Taylor Swift’s concert tickets, victims reported in January and February, with total damages amounting to at least S$213,000.
The “ticket scam” is one of the extremely painful shadows that covers Taylor Swift’s 6 nights of The Eras Tour.
Hundreds of spectators (including many Vietnamese) were victims of ticket scams due to the huge demand for tickets of The Eras Tour Singapore.
