The Buffalo Bills have bolstered their offensive line depth by signing the player who happens to own the best name in the league.
Per Alec White of the team’s official website, the Buffalo Bills have signed veteran offensive lineman Will Clapp to a one-year contract. The 28-year-old spent each of the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, appearing in 14 games in 2023.
The LSU product was drafted in the seventh round (245th overall) by the New Orleans Saints in 2018. He spent his first four NFL seasons there in a rotational role before joining the Chargers in 2022.
Clapp appeared in 34 games over his four seasons with New Orleans, making seven total starts during that period. Per Pro Football Reference, the most snaps Clapp saw in a single season with New Orleans was 309 in the 2019 season.
Clapp saw an expanded role after joining the Chargers in 2022, appearing in all 17 games that year (three as a starter). With Pro Bowl center Corey Linsley unfortunately missing most of the season with a heart issue that will likely lead to retirement, Clapp stepped in and made 11 starts in the former’s absence.
The Buffalo Bills Have Had An Adventurous Offseason
Thanks to a brutal salary cap situation, the Buffalo Bills had to bid farewell to several key players and fan favorites this offseason. Pro Bowl Safety Jordan Poyer and cornerback Tre’Davious White were released in cap-saving moves, as was reliable center Mitch Morse.
The Bills also lost No. 2 wide receiver Gabe Davis and star pass-rusher Leonard Floyd in free agency. They also had to cut special teams weapon Deonte Harty and running back Nyheim Hines in order to clear cap space.
Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has spent most of his money re-signing key players like A.J. Epenesa and DaQuan Jones. Old friend Mitch Trubisky was brought back on a two-year deal.
With Clapp coming aboard, he should get every opportunity to land a starting job on the new-look Buffalo Bills’ offensive line.
