The Buffalo Bills have made a change to their wide receiver room this week, cutting a veteran in a move made this Thursday.
The team took to social media to announce WR Quintez Cephus’s release and safety Dee Delaney’s signing.
“We’ve signed S Dee Delaney and released WR Quintez Cephus,” the Bills shared via Twitter/X.
Cephus joined the Bills as a free agent at the end of last month, having returned from an indefinite suspension that cost him the entire 2023 season. The 26-year-old was recently reinstated after a ban for violating the NFL’s gambling policy, but he will need to find another team following this latest development.
The former Wisconsin star played 22 games for the Detroit Lions between 2020-2022, making 37 catches for 568 yards and four touchdowns on 60 targets.
He registered 15 yards in three games before a foot injury forced him to the injured reserve, ending his campaign prematurely in October 2022.
Following his return to the league, Cephus appeared to find the perfect team, given that the Buffalo Bills could use all the receiving help they could get in the wake of Stefon Diggs’ and Gabe Davis’ departures.
However, the team signed former Kansas City Chiefs wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year deal this week, so he is now set to search for a new home.
The Bills have also signed Curtis Samuel to a three-year deal earlier in the year, also drafting Keon Coleman with the No. 33 overall pick after trading down in a deal with the Chiefs.
Buffalo Bills Fill Roster Spot With New Signing
As mentioned above, the Bills announced the signing of a new safety in Dee Delaney on Thursday.
Delaney played 49 games over the last three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, making 25 tackles, five pass breakups, and two interceptions last season. He allowed 6.6 yards per target.
The safety was involved in a career-high 440 snaps on defense in 2023 but was mostly with special teams during the playoffs.
