Chris Paul just wrapped up his first season with the Golden State Warriors. While he wishes to be the owner of a WNBA team, rumors are already swirling about a potential move to the Los Angeles Lakers.
During a recent appearance on The Athletic’s podcast with Jovan Buha, Eric Pincus discussed the likelihood of Chris Paul joining the Lakers. Pincus proposed the friendly relationship between Paul and the Lakers’ LeBron James as one possibility.
“I would be remiss without mentioning Chris Paul is a real possibility. There is a reasonable chance he gets traded or just cut by the Warriors. He and LeBron obviously have a close relationship. There is a universe where the Lakers sign Chris Paul. It makes a lot of sense to me. Is Chris coming for the minimum? I don’t know. I don’t want to say he comes cheap to the Lakers, but in the absence of a better offer I could see that,” Pincus said.
The 11-time All-Star is currently under contract with the Warriors through the 2024–2025 season. The Warriors can waive him this summer since his salary for the 2024–25 season is not guaranteed. Nevertheless, many believe the Warriors will choose to keep Paul due to his contributions to the team’s success this season.
During his time with the Warriors, he averaged a career-low 9.2 points per game, 4.5 rebounds, and 6.8 assists. The star player also contributed to the team’s success, shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 37.1 percent.
Chris Paul Heaps High praise for Kyrie Irving
Paul recently appeared on ESPN’s NBA Countdown to discuss the series and share his insights. During the interview, he had high praise for Mavericks’ guard, Kyrie Irving.
“Ky is so special, man. What he’s done for this team this year, I think what he’s done for Luka, all the young guys on their team, they look to him for leadership. His defense is what really inspires guys,” Paul said.
The Western Conference Finals between the Mavericks and Timberwolves will be held on Wednesday, May 22, at 8:30 p.m. ET.
