There aren’t too many sure things in life, but you can always go to sleep knowing that the Kentucky Wildcats will always fail at some point in the NCAA Tournament.
This time around, the Kentucky Wildcats decided to get that failure out of the way earlier than usual.
The No. 14-ranked Oakland Golden Grizzlies get their first win ever in the round of 64 after pulling off the ultimate upset by taking down the No. 3-ranked Kentucky Wildcats 80-76 to advance to the round of 32.
The Kentucky Wildcats have an enormous amount of talent on the team but they had no answer for senior guard Jack Gohlke and his 10 three-pointers, which are the most made against the Kentucky Wildcats in program history.
The 14th seed handed the 3-seed another first-round exit and prolonged their March Madness slump. Kentucky was upset by 15-seeded Saint Peter’s in the first round of the 2022 tournament. In fact, the Kentucky Wildcats haven’t advanced past the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament since 2019, and they have just one March Madness victory over that span.
After the loss, many could not help but compare the Kentucky Wildcats program to a popular NFL team that has the same struggles.
Fans took to X and compared the Wildcats to the Dallas Cowboys.
The loss to Oakland will also push Kentucky’s Final Four drought to at least 10 years, the second-longest such skid in program history.
As we all know, it’s been 29 years since the Dallas Cowboys appeared in the NFC Championship Game. That was back in 1995 when they would defeat the Green Bay Packers and go on to appear and win the Super Bowl, which was also the last time they have been there, according to CBS.com.
Kentucky Wildcats Coach John Calipari May Not Survive This Latest Failure
There is no question that Calipari has been a strong coach for Kentucky, but the Wildcats fan base doesn’t feel as if he has done enough to justify his position with one of the sports’ blue bloods. He proved that once again in the NCAA Tournament with another first-round loss.
Kentucky’s last two trips to March Madness have come up short as the Wildcats were the first victim of 15-seed Saint Peter’s Cinderella run in 2022 and lost by six to Kansas State last year.
His latest loss to Oakland might have the program thinking long and hard about finally parting ways with the legendary coach.
