New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara running with football.
If the New Orleans Saints decide to shop him, there will be no shortage of interesting in do-it-all star running back Alvin Kamara.

The Saints are caught in a tough place, where there’s enough talent to compete for a playoff spot but also not enough to make a Super Bowl run. With plenty of pricey veterans still under contract (including Alvin Kamara himself), the team isn’t in an ideal position to begin a full-scale rebuild.

But GM Mickey Loomis has focused on getting this team a little bit younger. He released veteran safety Marcus Maye and former Pro Bowl wide receiver Michael Thomas in salary cap-saving moves.

If the Saints want to continue clearing out cap space, they should consider trading veteran running back Alvin Kamara while he still has value. And there’s one team in the AFC that especially stands out as an ideal landing spot for the five-time Pro Bowler:

Enter the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Raiders need a new RB1 after losing 2022 rushing champion Josh Jacobs to the Green Bay Packers in free agency. Right now, 2022 fourth-round pick Zamir White is slotted in as the Raiders’ RB1.

Adding Kamara to an offense with Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Michael Mayer will make life that much easier for the Aidan O’Connell-Gardner Minshew II QB room. When healthy, Kamara is a safe bet for over 1,300 yards of offense in any given year.

What Las Vegas Should Give Up For Alvin Kamara

Per OvertheCap.com, Alvin Kamara’s cap hit for the 2024 and 2025 seasons come in at $18.759 million and $29.077 million, respectively. His contract is voided in 2026, when Kamara will be 31 years of age.

Given the hefty cap it, Kamara’s age and recent injury history, the Saints can’t expect too much in return. This is about clearing salary cap space and leaning on the Jamaal Williams-Kendre Miller tandem.

Las Vegas should offer New Orleans their 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 112 overall) and a 2025 sixth-round pick for Kamara. That is fair value for an ageing RB that only has so many prime years left, and the retooling Saints should be content to secure two additional picks for an expensive veteran.
