LeBron James, in his 21-year NBA career so far, has been one of the costliest players to have for a franchise. His $500 million (approx) career earnings are just as unparalleled as his legacy. But when it comes to saving some dollars, even the billionaire can show off his thrifty side.
Recently, a video emerged on social media showing LeBron James using an illegal stream to seemingly watch the game between the Timberwolves and the Mavericks. The footage soon went viral as the act of piracy is not something that can be associated with King James.
LeBron being the face of the league for years even at the age of 39, is a testament to his talent, but using illegal service to watch a game of his own league certainly came as a friendly fire. The NBA’s league pass can’t be too expensive for a person making $50 million a year only from salary.
The mind-boggling sight soon went viral as the Lakers’ great faced the scathing scrutiny of the sporting community on social media.
Social Media Reacts to LeBron James’ Thrifty Way
LeBron James generally goes viral for the right reasons as the public interest remains high in the 4-time NBA Champion all the time. But this time, getting caught in the act of piracy landed him in hot waters with the eagle-eyed social media rounding up to comment on his penny-pinching act. Here are some of the comments posted on X (formerly known as Twitter):
A fan commented, “they wasn’t lying when they said he a cheapskate.”
One fan was fearful of the site getting taken down and posted, “they really gonna have streameast taken down because of u smh.”
Pointing out LeBron’s miserly way, a fan wrote, “Bron when it’s time to save as much money as possible…”
Expressing the fear of the site being taken down, a concerned fan posted, “if LeBron James does it, its so over for us.”
Another concerned fan pleaded, “If u for the ppl, delete this tweet.”
“League Pass is very expensive, even for him,” wrote one.
One fan couldn’t believe what he’s seeing and commented, “no way bruh.”
“10 game suspension minimum if Silver is really him,” one wrote.
“Wade wasn’t lying about bron being cheap,” even Dwyane Wade got dragged into it.
A surprised fan wrote, “says a lot about accessibility of NBA games even for the biggest star in the game.”
The move from LeBron certainly didn’t have a good look. Amid his uncertain Lakers future, he is having his best life with his family and friends for now. For LeBron, the Paris Olympics is the next stop, as the fans would love to watch him back on the court rather than participate in shady activities.
