When it comes to the most intelligent athletes in the NFL, many fans will choose some of the best quarterbacks, like Patrick Mahomes, who can read a defense within seconds and dissect it with his play.

When it comes to intelligent athletes in the classroom, we are now finding out that the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was just as deadly in school.

Mahomes’ GPA at Texas Tech was absurdly high. According to Tyler Today, he earned a 3.91 GPA while studying in the city of Lubbock, Texas.

“He started getting college credits at Tyler Junior College when he was still in high school,” his mom, Randi, recalled.

“I admit I am a proud mom. I am very proud of his athletic achievements. However, I am more proud of his scholastic achievements.”

According to Britannica, Patrick Mahomes was a marketing major who didn’t get his degree after forgoing his senior year for the league.

Mahomes stepped his game up in his last season at Texas Tech Red Raiders. His 5,052-yard performance paved the way for his NFL debut. Mahomes threw for 11,252 yards, 93 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions in 32 games for Texas Tech during the three seasons he played there.

Despite being picked as the Kansas City Chiefs’ 10th overall pick in the draft, Patrick Mahomes did not immediately take the starting job. Instead, he spent his rookie season as Alex Smith’s backup.

The Chiefs’ decision to have Mahomes learn behind Smith was wise, as they recognized the complexity of NFL schemes vs college-level strategies. They wanted Mahomes to progressively learn the intricacies of NFL playcalling and systems.

Following the 2017 season, the Chiefs traded Smith to Washington, and Mahomes became the starter.

Alex Smith was the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback from 2013 to 2017 before being replaced by Patrick Mahomes.

Alex Smith led the Chiefs to the playoffs four times in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017. But it was Mahomes who would forever change the franchise.

After sitting behind Alex Smith in his debut season, Mahomes took over as the franchise’s starting quarterback. And to say that he’s delivered for them would be an understatement. He’s earned two league MVPs and led Kansas City to three Super Bowl titles, winning MVP each time.
