The Baltimore Ravens are meeting with two free agent wide receivers, including a former Dallas Cowboys 1,000-yard weapon.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Baltimore Ravens are scheduled to meet with former Cowboys WR Michael Gallup, while ex-Detroit Lion Josh Reynolds is scheduled to fly into Baltimore to visit the team on Friday.
The Baltimore Ravens were recently linked to a potential trade for San Francisco 49ers star wideout Deebo Samuel. But GM Eric DeCosta was quick to pour cold water over that rumor, per ESPN’s Jamison Hensley.
Last week, the Cowboys released Gallup in a cap-saving move that cleared $9.5 million. The 2018 third-round pick had a career year in 2019 that saw him rack up 66 receptions for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns. With Dak Prescott missing most of the 2020 season, Gallup’s numbers dropped considerably (59 catches, 843 yards and five touchdowns).
Injuries unfortunately prevented Gallup from getting close to his 2019 and 2020 totals again. Over each of his final three years in Dallas, Gallup caught less than 40 passes and was held to under 500 receiving yards.
The 29-year-old Reynolds had one of the best seasons of his career in Detroit in 2023. He caught 40 passes for 608 yards (the second-highest marks of his career) and five touchdowns that matched his personal best from 2018.
We’ll find out in the coming days if Reynolds and/or Gallup end up joining the Baltimore Ravens’ high-powered offense led by Lamar Jackson.
Baltimore Ravens Need More Receiving Help
The Baltimore Ravens’ offense improved considerably in 2023 thanks to the arrival of first-round pick Zay Flowers (77 receptions, 858 yards and five touchdowns). Though he’s been past his prime for a while now, Odell Beckham Jr. also chipped in with quality production (35 catches, 565 yards and three touchdowns).
But it’s clear that the Baltimore Ravens need another threat in the passing game. Beckham isn’t returning, and we still don’t know if Flowers can develop into a true No. 1 receiver.
The likes of Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and Courtland Sutton have been floated as potential trade chips this offseason. The Ravens could eye the trade market, but they also have the chance to find another WR in the receiver-heavy 2024 NFL Draft next month.
