A top NFL analyst is projecting the New York Jets to move up and trade for the top wide receiver prospect in the 2024 Draft, Marvin Harrison Jr.
The Jets have been ultra-aggressive in the early stages of the league new year, having already signed eight-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Tyron Smith and two-time 1,000-yard wide receiver Mike Williams. On top of that, GM Joe Douglas further bolstered the o-line by bringing back old friend Morgan Moses via trade with the Baltimore Ravens.
With star quarterback and four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers entering his age 40/41 season, the New York Jets are strictly in win now mode.
In his latest mock draft, NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah has the New York Jets making another big-time “win move move by trading up via the Los Angeles Chargers into the No. 5 spot to select Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.:
“The Jets are all-in with a veteran quarterback and they recently acquired two offensive tackles to shore up the O-line. They desperately need another playmaker in the passing game to complement Garrett Wilson, so they trade up to select Harrison, the top receiver in the draft and Wilson’s former Ohio State teammate.”
Widely regarded as the best wide receiver on the board, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound Harrison Jr. racked up 67 receptions for 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns in his final season of college football. The year before, he had 77 catches for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns.
The New York Jets Are Loaded On Offense, But Could Still Target Marvin Harrison Jr.
Jeremiah’s mock draft was posted hours before the Jets signed Williams to complement young star Garrett Wilson. Still, that might not necessarily prevent Douglas from moving up to land Harrison Jr.
The New York Jets already took care of their main weakness by bringing in Moses and Smith to fix up the o-line, and Williams can serve as that much-needed WR2. But he’s also 30 next season and only on a one-year deal, so Douglas needs to think long-term here.
The second-generation wideout would immediately give New York a top-flight receiving trio for the future and over the long run. Rodgers’ successor would be set up nicely to take over with a Marvin Harrison Jr. and Garrett Wilson tandem.
