The New York Giants hold the No. 6 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which is scheduled for April 25-27 in Detroit.
No one had a clue who the team might be thinking of taking, but that news came out recently and the New York Giants are said to be pissed about it, according to the Daily News.
It has been leaked out this week that the New York Giants plan on selecting Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy with their No. 6 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Representatives from the New York Giants met with J.J. McCarthy last week, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Connor Hughes of SNY reported last Friday that McCarthy is perceived as “the player the Giants want.”
In an undefeated season at Michigan last year, McCarthy threw for 2,991 yards, 22 touchdowns, and just four interceptions.
The New York Giants could be in the market for a quarterback in the first round of the draft since Daniel Jones is not working out in the way that the franchise had hoped.
Going for McCarthy would be considered a significant reach that early for the New York Giants but the team is desperate to upgrade the position. He could plausibly be the best QB available by the time they’re on the clock with the sixth pick.
The New York Giants Need a Desperate Upgrade At The Quarterback Position With Daniel Jones Taking a Step Back
The New York Giants haven’t wavered in their commitment to Daniel Jones, saying they expect him to start Week 1. Just because he may be the unquestioned starter due to the contract he has does not mean he will be there for very long.
Jones finished with 909 passing yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions in six games this past season. He missed the remainder of the 2023 season after being diagnosed with a torn ACL. He only averaged 5.7 yards per pass attempt, the NFL’s second-worst mark among quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts.
The injury marked a disappointing end to what can only be described as a disastrous 2023 season for Jones, who signed a four-year, $160 million contract in the offseason.
His replacement may be coming sooner than everybody would’ve ever guessed.
