Tee Higgins and the Cincinnati Bengals failed to come to a deal before free agency, forcing the Bengals to apply the franchise tag to keep him aboard.
From there, Higgins requested a trade so he could try to head to a different team that would be happy to pay him what he deserved.
No such trade has come through, but that does not mean his name has not been floated around for several teams who could use Tee Higgins in the passing game.
Entering this offseason with over $100 million in cap space, the Patriots were in prime position to inject plenty of talent into a terrible offense that only averaged 13.9 points per game last season.
Now that they are heading into a new era, the team wants to make that offense look much different and Tee Higgins name has come up as the Patriots are possible trade suitors for him.
After coming up short in the free agency sweepstakes for Calvin Ridley, New England’s lone addition to their receiving corps has been former Vikings pass-catcher K.J. Osborn.
Adam Caplan of Pro Football Network stated the Patriots plan on leaving no stone unturned in search of a game-changing wideout.
Caplan reported that the Patriots have “looked into the trade market” for veteran receivers. Bengals wideout Tee Higgins has routinely been mentioned as a possible trade target for New England this offseason.
If no trade suitor is found, Higgins will play the 2024 season on a one-year offer of approximately $21.8 million.
Tee Higgins Has Chance to Have All-Time Season As No. 1 WR If Traded To The Patriots
Tee Higgins would be a bonafide WR1 on almost any team in the NFL. But in Cincinnati, he plays behind a superstar talent in Ja’Marr Chase.
Higgins finished with 42 receptions for 656 yards and five touchdowns over an injury-shortened 12 games last season.
Through 58 games with the franchise that drafted him with an early second-round pick in 2020, Higgins has reeled in 257 catches for 3,284 yards and 24 touchdowns, according to ESPN.com.
