The San Francisco 49ers were among the large number of NFL teams on hand to watch a notable wide receiver this week who is connected to former player Terrell Owens.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reported that Missouri State wide receiver Terique Owens, son of Terrell Owens, worked out in front of more than 20 NFL scouts at the University of Missouri.
Among the scouts present were representatives from the San Francisco 49ers, who Terrell Owens had played for early on in his career.
The younger Owens had quite the performance that was highlighted by a 40-yard dash time of 4.51 seconds, a vertical jump of 38.5 inches, and a broad jump of 10 feet, four inches.
Owens spent three years at Missouri State where played in 18 games and posted 46 catches for 765 yards and four touchdowns. All four of his touchdowns did not come until his final season last year when he also had a career-high 28 receptions and 528 yards.
He was a late bloomer but they may be all he needed to convince a team to take a chance on him in the NFL Draft, most notably, Terrell Owens’ former team.
Terrell Owens Defined His Early Career With The San Francisco 49ers
Terrell Owens was drafted out of little-known Tennessee-Chattanooga in the third round of the 1996 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
His career would be defined by his years in the Bay Area.
The wide receiver played his first eight NFL seasons with the 49ers, from 1996 to 2003. He caught 592 passes for 8,572 yards and 81 touchdowns in 121 games and earned four Pro Bowl selections.
Owens would go on to be inducted into the San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame and also the NFL Hall of Fame.
