Despite a subpar performance on Friday night, Caitlin Clark came through with a crucial late play in the fourth quarter to help the Indiana Fever secure their first win, defeating the Los Angeles Sparks 78-73.
Clark scored only five points in the final minutes and missed all seven of her three-point attempts, but this did not affect her decision-making. With two and a half minutes remaining, Clark made a long-range steal to extend her team’s lead to six points. Then, with forty seconds left, she hits a game-winning three-pointer. This victory put an end to the team’s original five-game losing streak.
Caitlin Clark Opens Up on Team’s Losing Streak
During a press conference after the game, Clark was asked about breaking the losing streak. In response, she mentioned that she had been thinking about it since the 5th game, and it finally happened.
“To be honest, I went to the bench after I was like, ‘I was due, they had to go in, I had missed so many throughout the game. It was time for them to go in.” Clark said.
The crowd at the arena erupted in cheers when Clark made the game-winning three-pointer, securing the Fever’s first win.
During a recent episode of the Mind the Game Podcast, LeBron James, a star player for the Lakers, and JJ Redick, who is rumored to be the next Lakers head coach, discussed Caitlin Clark’s WNBA debut and performance. James mentioned that he has gone through all the problems Clark is facing. He also mentioned that Clark is bringing new heights for the WNBA and engaging more fans in the game.
Clark will return to action on Saturday against the Las Vegas Aces at Michelob ULTRA Arena. Fans will be fascinated to see their favorite WNBA player deliver impressive performances reminiscent of her college career.
