The reigning champions had a strong grip in the first half, but the Wolves came back roaring in the other half, successfully chasing the 20-point deficit created by the Nuggets. This disappointed the home crowd and frustrated their big man, Jokic.
During the fourth quarter, when the Minnesota team snatched the lead, Edwards was spotted waving at the Ball Arena crowd. Jokic, who was already in a foul mood, asked the Wolves guard, “Why did you wave at the crowd?” The former Georgia guard simply directed at the scoreboard, reminding him about their impending exit.
Despite the Serbian’s brilliant contribution of 34 points, 19 rebounds, 7 assists and Jamal Murray’s 35 points, they couldn’t secure the win as they received very little support from their teammates. Whereas, the Timberwolves showed their teamwork and finished the night with a 98-90 victory and a 4-3 series win.
Nikola Jokic Claim Nuggets Were “Built to Beat Us”
Even after the season-ending loss, Nikola Jokić did not hold back from acknowledging the strong team that the Minnesota franchise has built. When asked about the possibility of a rivalry between the two teams in the post-game press conference, the 29-year-old expressed positive views about the opposing team.
“Yes. I think they’re built to beat us in some ways,” said Joker, then he continued stating, “Just look at their roster. They have basically, two all stars, two first defensive players of the year, Mike Conley, who is the most underrated player in the NBA, probably. I love the guy. He’s so good, and he always makes the right play. … On the bench, they have the Sixth Man of the Year. One team that can do literally everything. They can be big or small.”
Jokic and Co. can now take a break after their remarkable season which ended in a disappointing defeat while the inexperienced Wolves continue their playoff journey.
