Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever were so close to securing their first victory of the year as they played the Connecticut Sun at home.
The first game against the Sun saw a massive blowout, but the young Indiana had learned from their mistakes and were looking to upset the undefeated Sun.
Indiana’s Caitlin Clark rolled her left ankle during the first half of Monday’s game vs. the Sun, but the Fever managed to stay in the game throughout as they played the rest of the first half without Cark on the floor.
They maintained their closeness on Monday, tying the game at 26 after one, taking a 44-41 lead at halftime, then coming back from a 60-51 third-quarter deficit to be within 64-61 after three. After Clark’s big three, they battled bravely in a back-and-forth for the final 7:15 in the game.
With 41.1 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, the Sun took a two-point lead in the closing seconds. The Fever immediately called for a timeout.
Caitlin Clark did not appear to be impressed by the play that Christie Sides, the team’s second-year head coach, designed. As they emerged from the timeout, Clark was captured on camera appearing somewhat displeased, shrugging, and gazing at Erica Wheeler.
In the end, it worked out as Clark found an open Boston for a tying mid-range jumper, but the Sun made four straight free throws to close it out.
With 24 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists versus Indiana this season, Alyssa Thomas was just shy of recording her second triple-double.
Caitlin Clark finished with 17 points and five assists in the final 10 minutes, making 5-of-11 shots and three 3-pointers, including a go-ahead three from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse logo that gave Indiana a 70-68 lead with 7:15 remaining, via ESPN.com.

Caitlin Clark, the 2024 WNBA draft’s No. 1 overall pick, scared everybody when the Indiana Fever guard badly rolled her left ankle midway through the second quarter of her fourth WNBA game.
She stayed on the court before being helped up and stumbling awkwardly to the locker room.
