Here’s the story of how Arnold Schwarzenegger humorously tricked Sylvester Stallone into making his worst film, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold Schwarzenegger once tricked Sylvester Stallone into making his worst film, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. The comedy/action flop was a Box Office bomb that Stallone considers the worst of his career.

It’s a story that’s been talked about for years, and confirmed to be true by both actors, who have discussed it, and their long-standing feud, on occasion.

The 1980s and 1990s were a period dominated by action heroes like Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Chuck Norris, but the biggest stars at the time by far were Stallone and Schwarzenegger.

Stallone rocketed to stardom with the first movie in the Rocky franchise, and he evolved further into an action icon with his role as John Rambo in 1982’s First Blood.

As for body-builder-turned-actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, his career took off in the early 1980s with his performances in Conan the Barbarian and The Terminator, which is now one of the most iconic action films of all time.

For the next several years, both Stallone and Schwarzenegger starred in one or two movies a year, with each film typically being in the action genre.

Not all of the stars’ films were hits, though. One in particular, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, is widely-regarded as a terrible movie with few redeeming qualities: in the words of Stallone himself, it may be “one of the worst films in the entire solar system, including alien productions we’ve never seen” (via Ain’t It Cool News).

It was a buddy-cop movie that he starred in with Estelle Getty from The Golden Girls. The movie’s writing is awful, and Stallone should have known better than to take the role; however, according to testimony from both Schwarzenegger and Stallone, the former is directly responsible for the latter’s decision to take the part.

Schwarzenegger and Stallone

Schwarzenegger was offered the role first, but after seeing the script, Schwarzenegger could easily see that the buddy-cop movie was a doomed project.

So Schwarzenegger, thinking of Stallone, let it leak to the press that he was interested in the role.

As a result, when the role was offered to Stallone instead, he was told Schwarzenegger was interest; motivated by the idea of taking a role from his rival, Stallone signed on to play the lead in Stop! or My Mom Will Shoot.

Schwarzenegger was satisfied after hearing the news, as he knew the movie would bomb — and it was a disaster.

In regards to the competition between this two stars, this one can be counted as a win for Schwarzenegger.

The “violent hatred” between Stallone and Schwarzenegger — as it’s been described by Stallone — went on for a while longer, with the two attacking each other in the press, comparing the size of their muscles, and more. Of course, those days have long since passed.

The two have even acted together in movies like The Expendables trilogy and Escape Plan. Now, the two are able to joke about their feud, and in Schwarzenegger’s case, laugh about the time he tricked Stallone into making Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.
