The Atlanta Braves are getting some rough news about third baseman Austin Riley.
The Atlanta Braves are getting some murky news about one of their players. The Braves’ Austin Riley is uncertain when he will be able to take the field again for the team, per The Athletic. Riley is nursing a rib injury on his left side that is leaving him unable to swing a bat.
The Braves have had to shuffle around their infield lineup for the last several games due to Riley’s absence. The third baseman left Sunday’s game due to soreness and has been out of the lineup ever since.

The Braves are certainly hoping to get their star infielder back soon. Riley is having a somewhat quiet year for the Braves offensively, but adds a lot of help defensively. He is hitting .245 on the season, with 18 runs batted in. He is used to getting a lot of at-bats, as he had more than 600 appearances in the batter’s box in each of the last two seasons.
The third baseman has made the last two All-Star games, representing the Braves. He has played his entire career in Atlanta, going back to the 2019 season. Riley also won the Silver Slugger Award during the 2021 and 2023 seasons, respectively. He was also a member of the 2021 World Series Championship team.
Other Braves injury notes
Riley isn’t the only player injured for the Braves right now. The team is also without Travis d’Arnaud, who is suffering from a head contusion. The catcher left Friday’s game against the San Diego Padres with dizziness. The team said he could go on Saturday if needed. The Braves’ management says they don’t want to use him for at least two days, per The Athletic.
D’Arnaud is batting .255 this season, with five home runs and 16 RBIs. The catcher has suffered through several concussions in his career, and there was concern from Braves staff about his health after Friday’s game.
“I saw him for 30 seconds there after the game and he seemed fine,” Braves first baseman Matt Olson said, per MLB.com. “He definitely wasn’t as much in a daze as he was [when he suffered a concussion] last year. So hopefully that’s good and hopefully it’s nothing too serious.”
The Braves are in action Saturday against the Padres. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:15 Eastern. Atlanta enters the contest with a 26-15 overall record.
