KATY Perry has faced backlash for returning to American Idol amid ongoing fan pleas for her to focus on music and her speculated new album.

The pop star has been working on other career ventures and stepping away from music despite fan rumors of a new LP.

Katy, 39, received backlash over the weekend after announcing the American Idol season premiere on her social media.

The TV personality shared a promotional graphic on her Instagram, a sketched drawing of her standing on the beach in Santa Barbara, California.

In the artwork, the mother of one stood with her hand on her hip while wearing a black, white, and brown floor-length dress.

The background had mountain landscapes, palm trees, and beautiful blue water.

Katy’s long dark hair was styled in beachy waves and she had on full glam makeup.

A second photo showed the singer standing with her Idol co-stars, Ryan Seacrest, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.

Words on the screen read, “Heading back to where it all began; American Idol.”

Katy captioned her post, “OMG YER FINALLY GONNA GET OUR ORIGIN STORIES.

“Come visit @lukebryan@lionelrichie and my hometowns. The @americanidol journey begins on Feb 18th with the season premiere at 8/7c on ABC and Stream on Hulu!”

Despite the exciting news of the singing competition’s return, fans were more concerned with the songwriter’s lack of musical releases.

Many took to the comments section to beg Katy to leave American Idol and focus on her project.

“We want kp6 lead single cover not american idol,” one wrote, mentioning her speculated sixth album.

The comment garnered nearly 400 likes in agreement.

“Give us your origin story for KP6,” a second asked, while a third demanded, “Where’s the álbum.”

“Kp6 origin story tonight queen?” a fourth joked.

“We just want to know about the album,” a fifth confessed.

“Journey to the studio when,” a final wondered.

FILMING FOR IDOL

Katy has been focusing on her TV career more so than her musical one in recent months.

Over the weekend, the Dark Horse singer donned a tiny minidress and caught donuts from the sky for her latest television segment.

The 39-year-old singer filmed a segment for American Idol alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan on Friday.

Katy was pictured from a sunny location.

She wore a bright patterned mini dress that was cut short and showed off her long legs.

The top half of the dress was cut low and exposed her bare chest.

Her long brunette locks were scraped back into an updo.

To finish the look, Katy wore a huge pair of white sunglasses.

Lionel Richie was seen next to her, wearing a patterned top and black leather jacket.

Luke Bryan completed the trio in a Hawaiian shirt and a denim jacket.

They could be seen catching donuts falling from the sky.

The segment seemed to be in collaboration with Disney, as the character Lilo was also pictured.

While the pop star had been promoting the return of the singing competition with various teaser videos on social media, she announced another unexpected collaboration.

She revealed that she landed a role in the beloved children’s animated franchise, Peppa Pig.

Katy was filmed as she read her lines in the studio for her character Mrs. Leopard in the Peppa Pig Wedding Special.

“Hi everyone, I’m Mrs. Leopard,” Katy said to the camera.

“I can’t wait for you to join the celebrations with us!”

The video then switched back to the studio where the songwriter sat.

“Where’s the tea? Now what happened to that tea?” she asked.

Out of character, Katy asked someone to hand her a stuffed Peppa Pig toy which she danced around with in front of the camera.

The mother of one made a silly snorting sound.

“Ah ha! Job done,” she concluded.

“When my fans AND Daisy tell me to do something, it’s done,” she captioned the post and referenced her daughter Daisy, 3, who she shares with Orlando Bloom.

The pair have been dating since 2019.

“SURPRISE!!! I got to voice the new Mrs. Leopard in the Peppa Pig Wedding Special! See it in select cinemas starting tomorrow!

“Drop an oink oink if you’re DELIGHTED,” she concluded.
