Now that she’s three games in, everyone is noticing how opponents are playing Caitlin Clark in the WNBA.
The former Iowa Hawkeyes point guard has yet to experience a win since the start of the regular season, with the Indiana Fever now 0-3 after a game against the Connecticut Sun and back-to-back outings against the New York Liberty.
Clark was warned that there would be a learning curve once she got to the WNBA. Veteran Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi let her know reality was coming while she was still playing out the NCAA Tournament, and it appears she knew what she was talking about.
The two-time College Player of the Year is finding it hard to adjust to the league’s physicality and has admitted it’s more than she expected. She received a nasty welcome vs. the Sun earlier in the week and was treated to some more hard play in Saturday’s fixture against the Liberty.
Clark was tracking Courtney Vandersloot during the first quarter when reigning MVP Breanna Stewart stepped up to set a screen she ran into without seeing. She was knocked to the floor while Stewart hardly budged.
Fans on social media were quick to point out how Caitlin is getting bullied nowadays.
You can see some of the reactions below:
Caitlin Clark’s Teammates Were Called Out
Her teammates are the ones getting blamed, though, given that there was nothing illegal about the move.
“Legal screen. Nothing malicious about it. Her teammates need to call that out for her,” a user wrote.
“Why aren’t any of her teammates communicating and yelling “screen to your right coming” ???” another noted. “The Indiana Fever are a terrible team. They don’t even do the basics of on court communication.”
She scored 22 points in the 91-80 loss but could only manage two points in the fourth quarter.
The physicality is going to take some getting used to.
